In Human Design, the Splenic Center is a powerful hub of intuition, instinct, and survival intelligence. It governs our sense of safety, well-being, and the ability to make quick, in-the-moment decisions. But one of its most profound influences is how we process fear. What Is the Splenic Center?

The Splenic Center is one of the nine energy centers in Human Design and is associated with the body's primal instincts. It is our oldest awareness center, responsible for fight-or-flight responses and our deep, intuitive knowing. Unlike the Solar Plexus, which processes emotional waves over time, the Splenic Center operates in the present moment. Its wisdom is instant and subtle—if you ignore it, the message disappears just as quickly as it arrived.

Those with a defined Splenic Center experience a consistent and reliable sense of intuition, whereas those with an undefined or open Splenic Center may absorb fears from others and struggle with distinguishing their own instincts from external influences.


The Seven Fears of the Splenic Center

There are seven primary fears associated with the Splenic Center, each tied to a specific gate within the Human Design chart. These fears, when left unchecked, can hold you back from stepping into your full potential. Let’s explore them:


1. Fear of Inadequacy (Gate 48 – The Gate of Depth)

This is the fear of not being good enough or not having enough knowledge. It can manifest as imposter syndrome, feeling like you’ll never be fully prepared, or constantly seeking more qualifications before taking action.

Affirmation: "I trust that I have all the wisdom and depth I need in this moment. I am enough."


2. Fear of the Past (Gate 44 – Coming to Meet)

This fear keeps you stuck in the past, afraid of repeating old mistakes. It can show up as a fear of success, fear of failure, or resistance to new opportunities because of past disappointments.

Affirmation: "The past does not define me. I learn, grow, and welcome new opportunities with confidence."


3. Fear of Responsibility (Gate 50 – The Cauldron)

Here, you may feel overwhelmed by the weight of responsibility, whether for yourself, your family, or your business. It can make you hesitate in stepping into leadership roles or fully committing to your path.

Affirmation: "I am capable and strong. I embrace responsibility with grace and balance."


4. Fear of The Future (Gate 57 – The Gentle)

This fear whispers that you won’t be able to handle what’s ahead. It can manifest as anxiety, overthinking, or difficulty trusting your intuition, even when you deeply sense the right path.

Affirmation: "I trust my intuition and embrace the future with courage and ease."


5. Fear of Failure (Gate 32 – Duration)

This fear makes you hesitant to take risks or leap into new ventures. It may cause you to overanalyse situations, waiting for the perfect moment (which never comes) instead of taking bold action.

Affirmation: "Every step I take is a learning experience. I am resilient, and I trust in my journey."


6. Fear of Death/purpose (Gate 28 – The Game Player)

If you struggle with embracing uncertainty, this fear may be active in your Splenic Center. It can lead to taking risks out of fear or a fear that life has no purpse unless you take a risk.

Affirmation: "I embrace the unknown and trust that my purpose unfolds in divine timing."


7. Fear of Authority (Gate 18 – Work on What Has Been Spoiled)

This is the fear of being judged by others or too much self judgement. An awareness of a pattern that needs to be corrected or not.

Affirmation: "I release self-judgment and trust in my ability to grow and evolve with confidence."


How to Work with Splenic Fears

The key to working with Splenic fears is awareness and trust. Since the Splenic Center operates in the present moment, healing comes from:

  • Recognizing when a fear is surfacing and identifying which gate it may be tied to.

  • Distinguishing real danger from irrational fear. Ask yourself: “Is this fear keeping me safe, or is it just holding me back?”

  • Practicing deep trust in your intuition. If you have a defined Splenic Center, listen to your inner whispers. If you have an undefined or open Splenic Center, be mindful of absorbing fears from others.

  • Taking small, aligned actions. Courage isn’t the absence of fear; it’s moving forward despite it, use your strategy and authority.
